noun: an imagined place or state in which everything is unpleasant or bad, typically a totalitarian or environmentally degraded one. The opposite of Utopia.
Origin: late 18th century, from ancient greek δυσ- (bad, ill) and τόπος (place, landscape).
Dystopian societies are often imagined as police states, with unlimited power over the citizens.
